1950

Dr. L. B. Joshi, an eminent surgeon, founded Joshi Hospital.

1978

1978

Dr. Joshi donated the hospital to Maharashtra Medical Foundation. The hospital started with 30 beds.

Mr. Madhav Shankar Kanitkar and Mrs. Sumati Madhav Kanitkar donated their land on Senapati Bapat Road for building a second hospital.

1992

The Hospital on S. B. Road was renamed Ratna Memorial Hospital in memory of Mr. Shankarlal Tulshyan’s late wife.

Mr. Navalmal Firodia donated funds to set up a Cardiac Care unit.

1999

1999

Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale donated funds in recognition of which the Conference Hall and the Operation Theatre Complex were named after them.

Firodia trust donated funds to set up Navalmal Firodia Super Speciality Hospital within Joshi Hospital’s premises.

All except Dr. Telang (who was a student of Grant Medical College, Mumbai) were alumni of B. J. Medical College, Pune.

The seven Founder Trustees  were all Honorary Professors in their respective specialties at B. J. Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital, Pune. They came together to form “Maharashtra Medical Foundation”,  a society registered under the Bombay Public Trusts Act, in 1978.  Dr. L. B. Joshi donated his hospital to the Foundation in 1978. The Foundation transitioned into ” MMF Hospitals Association ” in 2019. The Trustees were designated as Directors. 

MMF Hospitals Association has two hospitals in Pune; Joshi Hospital and Ratna Memorial Hospital.
